Yesterday, May 15, 2010, Aubrey had her first taste of rice cereal. She took it very well! Much better than her brother :)
She finished a whole teaspoon without a fuss.
We did it again tonight, it was a bit fussy. But I think she was just too sleepy. She did eat everything though, which was mostly drowned in breastmilk.
As of 3 (??) weeks ago, she had her first real roll over. Earlier this week also, she had been rolling over regularly. Can't leave this gal alone anymore!!

A little joy
A little joy in my life is having to sit down and eat a Nation's cheeseburger. I don't get to eat out much anymore. But last night was a rare night of joyous dining.

Parents with sick children should not allow their children to play with others. It is very whacked to let your child share his germs when you knowingly allow it. The least you can do is warn other parents so that we could decide if we want our children near yours. Thank you.

a simple sign of maturity
I often think back to my carefree days when I had no responsibilities. Fun times, indeed.
But I'm slowly accepting the facts of life that come with aging. And along the way, I begin to understand why I appreciate the little things that I never looked at before.
Number one being: good health. I am scared to wits about having to leave my kids unexpectedly. I am also scared to wits about ever losing them. Nightmares that most normal parents don't ever want to go through. Having kids sure got me on a better track. I credit them for saving me from self destruction, as I now have something I believe I have to live and work hard for. These days, I'm just grateful for another day, another day to see my family, another day to see my family in bliss.
So come birthday time, there is nothing more I want than good health for my loved ones. It means so much more to say it now than when I didn't have the capability to care as a younger person. But I don't need to wait for my birthday to wish for this. I wish for it everyday. Thank you, God.

Parenting styles
I am one of those parents that don't believe in buying too many toys for my kids. As it is, we have too many toys. Most were given as presents. Others were bought by us because we're not completely boring parents either. We are actually very picky about what toys we buy. I just don't get why some parents buy their kids EVERYTHING. Some even claim they don't buy too many things, but that's just them underestimating their weakness.
I certainly don't mean to write this off as someone whose parenting style has never been criticized. As a parent, that is part of the package that one must face throughout their parenthood.

I just read this blog,
http://www.commondreams.org/view/2010/04/13-4
And it pretty much sums up the way I feel about paying taxes. Actually, I'm alright with the concept of taxes, since it's the only way the government would be able to fund anything that's in the interest of the American public. But most of us suspect that our money is misspent. I think this article says what I feel about it.
I am interested in knowing more about protesting the way our taxes are spent. This is robbery. They take out $$$ from my paychecks to fund things that I feel like aren't beneficial to this country. No, no, don't get me wrong. I am totally supportive of the idea of having a military. To defend us. But what is the military doing anyway? They're secretive on our tax money. Why don't we hear more about how our National Guards are doing? Why are we always hearing about the war on the other side of the world? Why are we funding a war that hasn't explained exactly why it's defending us?
If my taxes were more about funding schools, healthcare, science and technology programs, and you know, things that can actually build a better future within the borders of this country, I'm all for it. I'm not going to get into a political rant and write about anything more, it's almost midnight and I'm just browsing the net while my hair is drying.
And don't get me wrong again, I am all for the citizen who decides to join the military on the basis they are proud to defend this country from attackers and missiles pointed at us. I want to support those who defend me. I was once interested in doing that for a living, but things got jumbled and I am no longer in the mindset to jump in. Well - I can't help but think that there wouldn't be missiles if America wasn't hated for a reason. I find it hard to believe that any country would hate us just because we're America. America did something wrong to them, but no one tells us these things. Our tax money, at work, indeed.
