Too old to sleep with mom

Dear Gerard,

Tonight, I invited you and Aubrey to sleep with me. For 3 years now, you both have shared a room and not co-sleeping with me. So every now and then, I invite you to join me for the night.

You rejected it for the first time, on the argument that you were too old to do this. Hearing you say it made me proud, happy and sad all at once. You really are coming of age. I still don't like when you act like a toddler (which you are quite guilty of doing so often), but hearing you say you're too old to do something is a bit of an accomplishment.

So I guess I can't invite you anymore. Or I will, but you would decline.

What's next? What will you be too old to do?

ARTemis the Artist!

Dear Aubrey:

You and I share the same love for music. But you have taken the creativity level much higher than I have. Thank goodness. When I told you about Google looking for an artist to do its splash logo, you got interested. I found this in your homework folder. I LOVE IT. You took the time to work on this, and I never had to remind you about it. You remembered that we talked about it, so you did it. I love that.

Your report card also came in today. You are officially my superstar. You blew TK away!!! I am very proud of what you have already accomplished in your first 5 years. Soon, you will join Gerard at Sunset as a kindergartener. I know you will love it. You have been very excited about the idea of going there since Gerard started.

Keep it up, my girl. You inspire me so much. I love you.

When things backfire

We're having a row about completing your homework while I work at home today.....and I noticed you're too tired, distracted, can't do it.... Naturally, I am upset you won't do homework but I tell you to lay down and rest.

Mom: Go take a nap because you're still a baby
Aubrey: Well you take a nap and you're not a baby

Incoming kindergartener, on her way!

Today (or maybe tomorrow), we will find out what school Aubrey had been assigned to for kindergarten.

I'm envisioning my life to be a little easier with both of the kids in the same school. Of course, what do I know.

They really are growing up too FAST.
